NPP-SOL project coordinator Antonio Coppola, together with colleagues from the Italian team Shawkat Hassan and Andrea Vacca, visited Montpellier and held an intensive working session with Hatem Belhouchette, Aybike Bayraktar, and Zaynab Khannafer from the CIHEAM Montpellier team.
The visit focused on Work Package 4, advancing our efforts on:
• Modeling for technologies optimization
• Modeling for Best Practices development
• Bioeconomic modeling
A major milestone of the meetings was the integrated use of the DAHBSIM and FLOWS-HAGES modeling frameworks. The team worked on improving the Dynamic Agricultural Household Bio-economic Simulation (DAHBSIM) model through its integration with FLOWS-HAGES, and on adapting and parameterizing the enhanced model to assess the socio-economic and environmental impacts of jointly designed SSBMP and PTT-based scenarios. These analyses will support a more robust evaluation of sustainability pathways across different climate-smart farm types.
Beyond the technical progress, the visit provided a valuable opportunity to align methodologies, exchange perspectives, and strengthen collaboration across partner institutions. Looking forward to the next steps and to translating these modeling advances into actionable insights for sustainable agricultural systems.
