From 1 to 3 July 2026, the University of Barcelona (UB) / MAiMA team, Spanish partner of the NPP-SOL project, took part in the Congreso Ibérico de las Aguas Subterráneas (CIAS2026) in Barcelona. UB co-organised the congress with the Spanish Group of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (AIH-GE) and IDAEA-CSIC. It gathered about 270 participants from across Spain, including researchers, public administrations, water authorities and companies.
The team presented the contribution “Stimulating denitrification to optimise nitrate removal from agricultural runoff in a constructed wetland: an isotopic assessment“. It reported chemical and isotopic results from the biostimulation experiments carried out at the constructed wetland of the Lerma basin (Ejea de los Caballeros, Zaragoza), the NPP-SOL Spanish case study. The experiments aim to mitigate nitrate pollution from agricultural activities in the basin.
The abstract is available in the congress book of abstracts.
NPP-SOL is part of the PRIMA Programme supported by the European Union.
