In the scope of NPP-SOL project, the University of Basilicata (UNIBAS) team organized on December 17 a training seminar for the Moroccan partners on the agrohydrological model FLOWS.
Prof. Antonio Coppola and Shawkat B.M. Hassan from UNIBAS organized the online seminar through Google meet. The Moroccan team members who participated are Dr Abdelmjid Zouahri, Dr Lhou Beniken, Dr Houria Dakak, Dr Farima Ezahra Omari and Hatim Sanad from the Moroccan National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRA); Khadija Manhou from Ibn Tofail University; Majda Oueld Lhaj from the University of Hassan II and Ouijdane Elouali from Mohamed V University.
The seminar started by a brief presentation of the model basics and governing equations. The applications of FLOWS model in the scope of the NPP-SOL project were also discussed, with a focus on irrigation and fertilizer management. Following the presentation, an interactive session was carried out to illustrate the model’s graphical user’s interface. The session showed, step-by-step, the model functions and the instructions to correctly build the input files depending on the user’s simulation objective. During the session, participants’ questions and concerns were addressed with examples utilizing the model.
Then, a session was carried out to explain how to open and interpret different output files. It also included illustrations on how to deduct new information from the outputs, e.g., transpiration, solute transport to groundwater, overall plant stress, etc. Finally, an open discussion was carried out to answer any additional questions by the participants. The seminar was recorded and the video will be uploaded to the cloud.
